Ingredients

Sauce

  • ½ lb ground beef (lean if possible)
  • ½ lb Italian sausage
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic
  • 36 oz marinara
  • 2 T tomato paste
  • 1 t Italian seasoning

Cheese

  • 2 c ricotta cheese
  • 1½ c shredded mozzarella
  • ¼ c parmesan
  • ¼ c fresh parsley
  • 1 egg

Lasagna

  • 12 lasagna noodles (no boil)
  • 2½ c mozzarella
  • ¼ c parmesan

Notes

Sauce - Pasta - Cheese x 3, then Sauce, Pasta, Sauce. Cover, bake. Uncover, cheese, bake, broil.

Instructions

  1. Step 1

    Chop onion and prep parsley if using. Preheat larger cast-iron skillet on medium high.

  2. Step 2

    Preheat oven to 350F.

  3. Step 3

    Begin cooking onion, then garlic. Then add beef and sausage mixture until no pink. Salt and pepper judiciously. DRAIN FAT.

  4. Step 4

    Stir in the pasta sauce, tomato paste, and Italian seasoning. Simmer for 5 minutes.

  5. Step 5

    Meanwhile, create cheese mixture by combining ingredients and set aside.

  6. Step 6

    Assemble:
    1 cup sauce, 3 noodles, ⅓ cheese, 1 cup sauce, 3 noodles, ⅓ cheese, 1 cup sauce, 3 noodles, ⅓ cheese, 1 cup sauce, 3 noodles, 1 cup sauce.

  7. Step 7

    Cover with foil and bake 45 minutes.

  8. Step 8

    Uncover, sprinkle with remaining cheese and parmesan. Bake 13 minutes, then broil 2-3.

  9. Step 9

    REST 15 minutes.
